   Taiwan Digital Archives Multilingual Development Project            
Goals

   The Taiwan Digital Archives Multilingual Development Project aims to facilitate the promotion of the outputs of digital archives and international cooperation. By providing quality multilingual contents for international cooperation within five years, the Taiwan Digital Archives Multilingual Development Project hopes to broaden public access, promote Taiwan heritages worldwide, increase cultural interactions among countries and at the same time raise the visibility of Taiwan’s contributions on academic and digital archive research.

Roadmap:
  1. Multiple Language Translation for Taiwan Heritage Highlights
    • Inventorying TELDAP collections, items and other resources (2007-2008)
    • Identifying multilingual content development related to SOP, thesaurus, and schemas (2007-2008)
    • Translating selected contents into different languages such as English, Japanese, Spanish, etc. (Phase-I, 2008-2010; Phase-II, 2010-2012)
  2. Implementation of Multilingual Catalogue for TELDAP
    • Identifying collection level description and item level metadata schemas (2007-2008)
    • Piloting prototype of multilingual catalogue (2008-2009)
    • Creating user-friendly multilingual catalogue applications (2010-2012)
Preliminary Outputs
  1. The establishment of Multilingual Development Framework and the Identification of multilingual development workflows and SOP
  2. The arrangement and translation of 415 websites for TELDAP ,40,000 entries into the TELDAP. Glossary and mapping 15,000 entries of both Chinese and English.
  3. The translation of collection level description and item level metadata schemas.
  4. The editing of the bilingual manual for collection lever description, including the main text and the appendix.
  5. The translation of selected contents from “Digital Archives in Taiwan” portal site.
Future Works
  1. Continuing TELDAP contents inventory and translation.
  2. Popularize Taiwan’s multilingual achievement and improve the chances of international cooperation.
  3. Setting up a multilingual development team with language, marketing and technology professions
  4. Proposing effectiveness assessment for the evaluation of multilingual development efforts
